We have a new clean up station in the art room. 1st graders demonstrated great team work using the brooms and dustpans.
The September newsletter should have went home in the Tuesday Take Home this week. There is a full color PDF archived here if you missed it! http://cedargrovemusic.weebly.com/newsletters.html
Mrs. Forgey’s 2nd graders were rock stars today! They were on their best behavior and giving their best effort the entire time. We composed music using ice cream flavors and performed and improvised on the xylophones. This is “One For Ice Cream”. It was a great way to end my day! They put a big smile on my face!
(PS. Can you spy DJ and Sapphire?)
Kindergarten had their first lesson with instruments last week. Our goal for this activity is knowing how to keep our instrument quiet when it is not our turn. We also explored dynamics playing loudly or quietly appropriate to the song. This video features Mrs. Shelton’s class performing “Five Little Monkeys Swinging In a Tree”.
Mrs. Cook’s 3rd graders are were feelin’ the blues today! We practiced call & response. We learned the A minor chord on ukuleles and practiced improving in la-based pentatonic. I hope you enjoy our version of a blues classic, “Boom Boom”.
It is easy to understand rhythm when you match it with speech patterns. 4th and 5th grade composed new rhythms using school subjects. The students also had perform their rhythms for me. Here is an example from Cami, Kynslee, Macy, and Ayla. I will be hanging more student work in the hallway tomorrow.
Our classroom mascots now have names! I would like to introduce DJ Melody and Sapphire Rainbow. DJ and Sapphire already got lots of love today! Be on the look out for them hiding in our future pictures and videos. It will be a fun version of Where’s Waldo!
