Folk dancing benefits both the mind and the body. It is an excellent form of exercise and social interaction. It also requires cooperation to coordinate movements safely. 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders enjoyed learning a Russian Folk Dance called the Troika.
5th graders studied the color wheel in more depth. We used oil pastels and learned how to blend primary and secondary colors to make tertiary colors. We used the color wheels to make eye collages.
5th graders who are interested in joining band may attend the instrument interest meeting at Bernheim Middle School on Monday, March 4th. You can stop by any time between 4-7pm.
Representatives from a music store will be with instruments for the students to try. They will also have information about renting or purchasing an instrument. If you already have an instrument you may also bring it to be inspected for cleaning or repairs. If you have any more questions, feel free to message me.
Ms. Onnika Johnson was very helpful as art teacher for the day!
I don’t have time to hang all the artwork in the hallway, but here are some great examples that I had to share.
5th Grade-Geo Snowflakes exploring positive and negative space. Kindergarten-Penguin Collages practicing drawing, cutting, and gluing. 1st Grade-Painted Penguins. We worked in fine motor skills with a paintbrush. We didn’t draw any of the penguin shapes before painting. 2nd Grade-Snow Globes. We explored a new resist technique with salt water. Mix a solution of 1 cup hot water and 1 cup Epsom salts. Paint on dark colored paper and it will form crystals as it dries. |
