Did anyone get any musical gifts? I’d love to see pictures! My favorite gift is my music teacher Barbie. I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas.

Mrs. Cook’s 3rd graders enjoyed playing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” on ukuleles.
Fall art is coming down and I realized I never posted pictures of the hallway displays. This art is by 5th graders. They created rhythm and contour in their leaves and water ripples. We used crayon and watered down tempera paint.
Fall art is coming down and I realized I never posted pictures of the hallway displays. 4th graders explored perspective and depth. We created depth in our art with a larger marshmallow and a smaller bonfire. We also learned how to blend oil pastels and create shadows and reflection of light on the marshmallow. This is the first year I attempted this art with the students and I was very pleased with everyone’s masterpieces!
I have also included a time-lapse video showing the process for creating this art.
Mrs. Moore’s 4th grade class had a blast learning “Baby Shark” on recorder and xylophones. It really is a great teaching tool to learn the pitches sol, la, ti, and do.
Fall art is coming down and I realized I never posted pictures of the hallway displays. 1st graders decorated their pumpkins with a wide variety of lines. These are mixed media using crayon and watered down tempera paint.
Mrs. Forgey’s 2nd graders enjoyed dancing to “Bow Wow Wow”. I love all the warm embraces when they finally make it back to their original partner at the end. Games like this require directional and spatial awareness from every single dancer. If there was even one single mistake, we would get out of order and never make it back to our partners.
“Doggie Doggie” is a singing game that all ages enjoy. It tests listening skills to identify voices and direction of sound. 4th grade is learning how to play recorders, so we had to modify the game slightly to make it more challenging.
Fall art is coming down and I realized I never posted pictures of the hallway displays. 3rd grade created texture in their owls by adding a variety of line patterns. The medium was oil pastels. I love how each owl has a unique personality.
Ms. Montgomery has shown excellent growth as an educator during her time here at Cedar Grove. She will be with us for one more week. Then she will graduate from UofL and begin her job search. Here is a clip from a kindergarten lesson teaching rhythm. The students loved racing to the leaf pile to find the correct rhythm pattern.
