Fall art is coming down and I realized I never posted pictures of the hallway displays. 4th graders explored perspective and depth. We created depth in our art with a larger marshmallow and a smaller bonfire. We also learned how to blend oil pastels and create shadows and reflection of light on the marshmallow. This is the first year I attempted this art with the students and I was very pleased with everyone’s masterpieces!
I have also included a time-lapse video showing the process for creating this art.

Mrs. Moore’s 4th grade class had a blast learning “Baby Shark” on recorder and xylophones. It really is a great teaching tool to learn the pitches sol, la, ti, and do.
“Doggie Doggie” is a singing game that all ages enjoy. It tests listening skills to identify voices and direction of sound. 4th grade is learning how to play recorders, so we had to modify the game slightly to make it more challenging.
4th graders created these beautiful seascape collages. We explored texture and talked about foreground and background. The mixed media is painted paper and oil pastels.
Recorder Day 1
2 classes have received their recorders so far. The third will see me Monday. Before leaving, they had to make some promises... The promise they will be reminded of most often is “I will not make my family hate Mrs. Dennis!” ?
It is easy to understand rhythm when you match it with speech patterns. 4th and 5th grade composed new rhythms using school subjects. The students also had perform their rhythms for me. Here is an example from Cami, Kynslee, Macy, and Ayla. I will be hanging more student work in the hallway tomorrow.
Today, I left this note for each of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes. Can you decipher it? KPREP testing begins Monday!
I had a couple 4th graders begging to learn the Titanic Theme on recorder. This is for you Samuel and Joseph!!!
4th grade created abstract tessellations (shapes that can be repeated and interlock like a jigsaw puzzle).
Most grades have had lots of fun with a game called “Pass the Beat Around the Room”. This game works on tempo, internalizing the beat, group cooperation, and focus. The students must concentrate, remain alert, and anticipate the upcoming beats in order to stay in the game.
